Stormy Weather

The sky was threatening to open up, and the thunder could be heard in the distance, as I tracked this guy through the brush.

The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America, helped me narrow it down as to what he is. He's a Juvenile Yellow Crowned Night Heron. So much for foraging at night. Perhaps it was the dark sky that brought him out in the afternoon.

What's a post with out a Dragon Fly? And how often do you get to go eye to eye with one?

By 9 AM It's Gone

The cactus in our back yard blooms at night, and by 9 AM its bloom is gone. It was about 7:00 AM when I spotted the bees flying in the flower.

Katie tells me that this is a Night-Blooming Cereus.

Back on the Water

I was a bit bummed as I took another picture of a Blue Heron. I hadn’t seen any new animals. Then I started editing the picture. I noticed something. There’s yellow on the Egrets head. I hadn’t noticed it when I was trying to focus while bobbing up and down in my kayak. It’s a Cattle Egret.

The tide was coming in , and when going up and down doesn’t always make for the best pictures.
